Holograph description of the California partridge describing plate 413 of the elephant folio edition of Birds of America (1824-1838). The original drawing to which Audubon refers was apparently made from a specimen he received on March 6, 1837 from John Kirk Townsend. Accompanied by plate no. 290 of the California partridge from Lockwood's 1870 octavo edition.
